Thursday Update: 06/25/09

Well summer has officially arrived in our neck of the woods. We had been enjoying beautiful ‘cool’ weather in the 70’s…but I do believe those days are behind us now. We jumped right into summer with both feet…highs in the upper 90’s and heat indexes in the triple digits. It’s hot…just plain hot! Last weekend, before it got SUPER hot, we had a great time running here, there, and everywhere. Friday afternoon I wandered around the Des Moines Home Show with a few friends. It was rained nearly the whole time as we scampered from house to house under our umbrellas…and I couldn’t help but giggle as I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Here I am touring these ridiculously expensive homes with features and fixtures beyond comprehension, with my jeans rolled in big cuffs, wearing the required blue booties (which somewhat resembled elf shoes) over my sandals (which I could barely keep on my feet with the booties on), my hair a humid mess…it was great! By the time they loaded us back on t

Our New Baby…

Well, folks, we are now the PROUD owners of an orange, two door, 86,000 original miles, 2 previous owner 1976 Chevy Chevette!! Matt, George, and Chad made the trip up to Minnesota early Saturday morning to look at the car and of course, it was just what Matt wanted. He negotiated a FAIR price of $600 big ones and I’m pretty sure has had a silly smile plastered on his face ever since! Chad said when they pulled out of there they both were giggling like little school girls…and I believe it. How could they not? Here they were, two full grown men, squished into a tiny, old Chevette cruising on down the highway! They had people wave and give them a thumbs up…hilarious. The car ran great on the way home and they were full of cracks about what to nickname the car, as we sat and enjoyed some pizza. Chad especially kept throwing out cheesy names like the She-Vet, or Generally (instead of General Lee…get it?)…I think he was every bit as excited as Matt to play around with and beat on this little

So Matt has had this idea in is mind for a while now…a tiny little glimmer of an idea that he’s been mulling over and thinking about off and on – what if he found an old, cheap Chevette to tinker with and make into a drag car?? He mentioned it to me several times and we’d talk about it in that ‘someday wouldn’t it be fun’ kind of way you do, when you don’t really think it’ll ever happen like win the lottery, or put in a pool, or pay off the mortgage…and I never really took him all that seriously. I thought it was an amusing idea, and I could see how he’d have fun messing around with it with his friends…but life gets busy and his little idea just kind of sat there in the background, gathering dust. Until…the other day I was reading through old blog posts, of all things, and went back to the posts about the Trans Am, and when we sold it…and how hard that was for Matt…and for me. Letting go of that car, we felt we lost a lot of ourselves and our history. It was a sacrifice we both want

Monday Update: 06/08/09

Well, the busy weekend has come and gone and we find ourselves on the other end of another new week. We had a great time this weekend, visiting with family, and just hanging out. Friday we went to the eye doctor to try on the trial contact lens. It was pretty exciting for us to try it and both the doctor and the contact lens specialist were pretty pumped about it as well. They’d not tried anything like this before in their office, so they were learning along with us this amazing technology. It was beyond cool to see the contact sitting there like a small, fake, eye! She popped it in his eye and viola…it looked pretty darn amazing! We took some time to check it out and both she and the doctor agreed it looked pretty awesome and Matt couldn’t see out of it at all! We were so excited to have the trial lenses to play with over the busy weekend when we’d have various family members around to check them out. We had two different ones to try; one was a little bluer than the other, so I think

Thursday Update: 06/04/09

Well shoot…where is the time going? Seems like we’ve been busy…but I can’t really think of all with…let’s see…We had a great Memorial Day weekend…busy planting things in the yard (naturally) and spending time with friends and family. Sunday we celebrated Sandi’s birthday with a family lunch at our place…grilled burgers and homemade ice cream…doesn’t get much better than that! Later that evening we went to Blake and Amy’s house for smore’s around the fire pit…which was DElightful! Of course, we always have a good time kicking back with old friends like them. This past weekend Meghan came to stay overnight and boy can that girl keep you BUSY! We played, and went for a walk, and played, and went to buy some flowers, and planted them, and played in the sprinkler, and went to the pool, and played on the computer, and watered the flowers…phew, by the time we dropped her back with Hope and Chad we were BEAT! We spent Sunday recovering from the whirlwind that is our lovely niece and getting ca
